PHC are masters of their own fate
PHC Zebras coach Kyle Lightbourne had urged his side to take their chances in their match of the day showdown against a resurgent Dandy Town at St. John's Field tomorrow.
Top of the table after last weekend's win over then leaders Boulevard, Zebras now have a chance to put some distance between themselves and a Hornets team steadily climbing the table.
Lightbourne acknowledged however, that this will only happen if the leaders can stifle Dandy Town's potent attack, and take any chances they may get.
"We thought last weekend was going to be a tough game, but this one will be just as tough, if not tougher considering they are going well right now," said Lightbourne.
"They have been a team on the up, they have been scoring goals and are a good team so we will have to be at our best to get a result. They are the home team and the onus is on them to come at us.
"We are going to stick to our game plan. As a team we don't score many goals, so most important for us will be not to concede, so we will be concentrating on this. I believe that the longer we stay in games, the better we are in getting a results."
Both sides in the clash have been in fine form in recent weeks, along with North Village, and should set up for an exciting 90 minutes.
Despite last year's disappointment of not putting up a bigger fight for their league title, the side seem to be determined to make up for last term.
According to Lighbourne, the biggest difference between last year, and the position the team find themselves this time around is, consistency. But with this the last league game before the Christmas break, the former Bermuda international isn't happy with just being on top at the break, with the title being handed out in March.
"We have worked hard, and people are going off of last season's form but they forget we won the league the year before last.
"I know I have the players that are capable of competing at the top and this year we have had a lot of breaks opposed to last year when we didn't get any which hindered us from making a sustained run, so that has helped us out.
"There has only been one game we should have lost and that was against Colts and we did lose that one. We have been consistent in our performances and that is exactly what they are doing.
"Being on top at Christmas only means that we will be in the pack next year, but titles aren't handed out now, but at the end."
Elsewhere, champions Devonshire Cougars will have a chance to go top with a win over Hamilton Parish at Devonshire Rec. should PHC and Dandy Town end in a draw, while North Village will host Somerset Eagles at Bernard Park as both sides look to keep close tabs on the leader.
Somerset Trojans will travel to Southampton Oval to tackle Southampton Rangers, with the last match of the weekend pitting a coachless Boulevard side playing Devonshire Colts at Police Field as they attempt to get back on track in the league.
Meanwhile in the First Division, league newcomers Robin Hood look likely to end a remarkable year on top of the table.
Hood play BAA tonight at BAA Field, and will expect to beat their landlords and go into the winter break ahead of pre-season favourites St George's and St David's.
