Castle lined up for top Hogges post
Jack Castle is in line to become Bermuda Hogges' assistant coach with Shaun Goater set to relinquish his coaching duties.
Hogges boss Kyle Lightbourne wants to renew his successful partnership with Castle who served as his trusted lieutenant during last season's memorable treble-winning season at PHC.
Castle, a former Bermuda national team assistant, has tentatively agreed to join the semi-professional outfit after holding talks with Lightbourne earlier this week.
"Jack was my assistant at PHC and I want him to be my assistant at the Hogges," Lightbourne said. "We still need to finalise everything but he has tentatively agreed to join us.
"The Hogges have realised that we need an extra hand and that we've probably taken on too much in the past – something had to change."
Stepping away from the dug-out will enable Hogges president Goater to devote more time to helping co-owner Paul Scope improve the franchise's business foundations.
Goater, who became North Village boss earlier this season, insisted that Lightbourne would choose his own number two.
"I'll be stepping down from my assisting duties this season to concentrate on our off-the-field development," said Goater.
"Kyle will be bringing in his own man.
"I imagine a number of local coaches would jump at the chance to be involved with us as it's a great opportunity.
"Ideally, we'd like to have someone onboard before the start of the season, as it's important all pieces of the jigsaw are in place before our first game.
"Kyle will make the decision as he needs to be confident in the man he will be working alongside."
Outspoken coach Castle is no stranger to controversy having been sacked as assistant by ex-Bermuda coach Keith Tucker, whose tactics he strongly criticised. Castle also severed ties with Zebras earlier this season after being handed a two-month ban for disorderly conduct and has recently been helping out Premier Division side Hamilton Parish.
So upset with the internal infighting, Lightbourne was rumoured to have stepped down as PHC coach soon after Castle's departure, as the club's form suffered, before performing a U-turn.
Hogges start pre-season training next week ahead of their opening match of the season away at Crystal Palace Baltimore on April 24.
