Lightbourne contemplating PHC exit
Kyle Lightbourne's future at Pembroke Hamilton Club (PHC) remains up in the air with the Bermuda Hogges' boss said to be contemplating stepping down as Zebras' coach.
According to PHC sources, Lightbourne is dissatisfied with the way the Warwick club is being managed and despite coaching Zebras to five trophies in the past two seasons feels he doesn't have the "full-backing" of his superiors.
Reports reaching The Royal Gazette sports desk suggest Lightbourne could resign as coach before the start of the 2009-10 campaigns and relocate in the UK where he intends to reside on a short-term basis.
The former national coach declined to comment on the matter when contacted, stating only: "I don't want to make any statements about PHC in the papers.
"I don't need to comment on PHC at this present time."
PHC vice-president Mark Wade also held his cards close to his chest.
"I haven't heard anything to suggest Kyle has resigned and as far as I know he is still there," the former Zebras' defender commented.
Zebras are due to commence their pre-season training at the end of next month when it is expected Lightbourne's intentions for the upcoming season will be revealed.
"I am not due to speak to Kyle until the BFA (Bermuda Football Association) sort out the new league structure," added Wade. "But as far as I know Kyle is still coach of PHC."
Lightbourne succeeded Wade as Zebras' coach three-years ago and since then has coached PHC to a Premier Division championship, a record 10th overall Friendship Trophy, Martonmere and Charity Cups and an unprecedented 10th FA Cup.
It is understood the former professional is disillusioned with the slow progress being made in the construction of PHC's new clubhouse and management's refusal to approve technical assistants who he feels can be an asset to the team.
Lightbourne's Hogges take on Western Mass Pioneers tomorrow at the National Sports Centre. Kick-off is at 8 p.m.
Hogges are on a five-game losing streak.
