Reports in a weekend tabloid that Walsall manager Kenny Hibbitt has been linked with moves to Wolves and Bradford City, his home town club, has Bermudian striker Kyle Lightbourne a little bit concerned this week as he awaits a new contract offer.

For it was just over a year ago under similiar circumstances that Lightbourne departed from his first English club, Scarborough, as a change of manager brought about a change of fortune.

The failure by Walsall to gain a playoff spot in the Third Division has agitated some fans at the club who called for Hibbitt to be fired.

Hibbitt, who spent 19 years at Wolves as a player, is being sought by former England manager Graham Taylor to be his assistant at Wolves, according to newspaper reports.

"There's been a lot of rumours about it but I don't know what's going to happen,'' said Lightbourne yesterday. "It's all paper talk, as far as I know he is still going to be manager next season.'' Lightbourne's contract with Walsall expires on June 30 and he is hoping to get the offer of a new one this week.

The fans at the club have become impatient with the failure of Hibbitt to lift them out of the bottom division in the four years he's been at the club, and they showed their discontent in the final home match of the season on Saturday when they lost at home to Mansfield.

"They staged a rally outside the club after the match,'' explained Lightbourne.

Lightbourne welcomes the news that Hibbitt intends to stay with the club even though his contract is expiring. Hibbitt gave him an extended run in the team since singing him this season.

In his first season at the club Lightbourne played over 30 games and scored 10 goals to lead their scoring.

"A lot of things get said in newspapers but he told the players he'll be here next season. I have a lot of respect for him,'' said Lightbourne.

Meanwhile Shawn Goater, the other Bermudian in English football, could also be discussing a new contract with his club, Rotherham, by the end of the week.

"I would think he'll (manager Phil Henson) will see me before Friday,'' said Goater who was involved in a reserve team game this week as the club chased promotion in that division. Their final two matches are today and Friday.

After finishing the season with 13 goals in 30 matches, Goater admits he wants better terms.

"I'm looking for security,'' he stressed. "When he calls me in I'll just be feeling him out, seeing what they're willing to offer. At the end of the day I've got to be happy.

"I felt as though my season ended very well and it might have sparked a bit of interest. But at the same time I'm still at Rotherham and if I sign a new contract I'll be happy. In the last two years I've gotten close to what I've wanted.''
