Dropped Kyle bounces back

his best goals in England, and now he's looking to regain his place in the Walsall team for today's away match against Wycombe.

"I got dropped two games ago against Carlisle and the manager said to me `things are not running for you at the moment','' said Lightbourne yesterday.

"He changed the team around and made three changes. Then I scored in the reserves in midweek when we won 1-0 away to Rochdale, and it was probably the best goal I've scored in England.'' Lightbourne explained that he picked up the ball inside his team's half and beat three players on his run into the opposing penalty area before chipping the goalkeeper.

He scored an almost identical goal as a substitute for the first team last weekend against Peterborough when he received a through ball on the halfway line, outpaced the Peterborough defence and again chipped the goalkeeper from near the penalty spot.

"It was a similiar type of goal but I didn't really have to beat any players, just with pace, and it was from the samy type of angle that I chipped the goalkeeper,'' said the striker.

The goal took Lightbourne's tally for the season to three in the first team and it gave Walsall the lead which they lost about seven minutes later as Peterborough salvaged a point.

Lightbourne puts his lack of goals down to misfortune for both himself and the team.

"When we played against York and lost 1-0 I hit the post and had one cleared off the line, so things weren't running right,'' he explained.

"Sometimes you need a bit of luck for the ball to go in and I just wasn't getting the luck which is what the manager said to me.

"He said I was still his number one choice but he had to leave me out for a few games to see how things go. I was disappointed I got dropped but I've taken it well and kept my head high.'' Walsall are in a mid-table position in the Second Division standings, with only a loss of valuable points preventing them from being closer to the top third.

"We've lost eight points that we should have definitely had,'' Lightbourne pointed out. "We've been conceding sloppy goals. We've not getting the right balance in the team like we had last season and that's what the manager is working on.

Added Lightbourne: "We were leading 2-0 against Oxford at home and with eight minutes to go and they came back 2-2.

"The week before that against Burnley, they scored on the last kick of the game and on Saturday were leading 1-0 in the last 15 minutes and we gave away a sloppy goal.

"We need to come away with a good result (today). A draw is a good result but we need a win to get us going again.''
