Police issue advisory on Heritage Day Parade

The Parade will start at the junction of Church Street and Par-la-Ville Road, head east on Church Street, and turn right onto Queen Street.

After travelling down Queen Street, the procession will turn left onto Front Street, travel east and then onto Court, before turning onto Church Street and heading west.

From Church Street paraders will turn onto Cedar Avenue before turning right onto Marsh Folly Road, and will make its way to Bernard Park via Dutton Avenue.

Between 8 and 9 a.m. flat bed floats will form up on Par-la-Ville Road and Woodlands Road where they will be prepped and judged for the parade.

At 12.15 p.m. a Mini Opening Parade will leave the Transport Control Department parking area and travel west on North Street, turn right onto Dutton Avenue and on into Bernard Park via the South Gate.

The Mini Parade will have about 1,000 children and bands participating.

Premier Jennifer Smith is scheduled to arrive at Bernard Park at 12.10 p.m.

The Heritage Day Parade is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., starting at the junction of Church Street and Par-la-Ville Road and will include the usual assortment of floats, bands, and majorettes.

The St. John Ambulance Brigade will have a mobile ambulance on the parade route and have another stationed at the junction of Reid and Parliament streets. In addition the Brigade will have a tent at the park.

Westbound traffic attempting to enter Hamilton along Crow Lane, Middle, Cavendish, and Palmetto roads, and Black Watch Pass will be diverted to avoid the parade route.

No parking will be allowed along the parade route nor on Reid Street between Court and Queen streets, Cedar Avenue and Burnaby Street, Court Street between Front and Church streets.

Par-la-Ville Road from Serpentine Road and Church Street will not be open for parking as well as Canal Road, Church Street, Front Street between Par-la-Ville to King Street, and King Street from Victoria to Front streets.
