Letters to the Editor
August 8, 2006
Dear Sir,
I beseech you for a little space in your newspaper in order that I may share some of my thoughts with my Island people! I, like many others, have many concerns pertaining to the Government of the day which has resulted in a common feeling that we could never vote for this Government again!
After spending hours chatting with many different people, let me try and relay some of my sentiments to you. At the beginning of the election that eventually saw the PLP become the Government of the day, they said and I highlight "they were the people's party"! Well, if they are the people's party, why do I have to now catch a ferry to Dockyard, then take a bus to Somerset, walk along East Shore Road, up Scott's Hill to get to Soundview Road, when there is a ferry stop at Cavello Bay? Granted, this is not all the time, only on weekends. What good does it serve the people of this area if this service is not available to them on weekends as well as during the week! Why cut this service at all? There are people of age and of injury who depend on this ferry service to get around such as going into Hamilton or Dockyard for dinner or a cinema etc.
It makes one wonder why we have buses on routes that pick up no one and let off no one because it is not a busy route!
It is becoming blatantly obvious to me that, in the words of Malcolm X, "we have been bamboozled and hoodwinked!"
In closing, I would like to advise the people of Bermuda, that we not longer have to sit at the back of the bus! Also, not everything implemented by the UBP is all bad. Just something for you to think about!

Dear Sir,
Here is my personal opinion on stopping the violence and other aggravated assaults that are escalating in Bermuda.
1. Government authority should raise the voting and drinking age to 21 years old.
2. Government authorities should also beef up the Police department and do what is necessary to bring in new and experienced Police officers and increase the pay rate and benefits to bring in good quality people.
3. Have a curfew for children under the age of 21 at 10 p.m. unless they are accompanied with a parent or legal adult or guardian. Parents should be fined if their children are caught breaking the curfew. Fines should be between $750 and $1,000 each time the curfew is broken and the child is caught.
4. Police all troubled areas with Police patrol at all times to disburse the group of children especially in places where these gangs and groups hang out.
4. The public should get involved and report any crime or other disturbing incidents that may take place in the home, neighbourhood and other areas. There should be a crime stoppers number posted in public places and near your home phones.
As responsible adults, parents and citizens we should all be involved in ending this madness.
