The fourth annual Sunshine League "Hats off to Spring" Tea Party was a "resounding success", according to League executive director Karyn Hodgson.

While the amount of money raised had not yet been tallied when Ms Hodgson spoke with The Royal Gazette, she said entertainers Troy Robinson and Elton Richardson were "wonderful", as was the fashion show and tea. "All the attendees looked splendid in their hats and regalia."

The Tea Party is held every year to raise funds for the Sunshine League Children's Home. This year the event took place at the Harbourview Ballroom at the Hamilton Princess Hotel on Sunday afternoon between 2 and 5 p.m. Ladies were asked to wear their Sunday best, including hats and gloves.

Ms Hodgson and organiser Brenda Richardson thanked all those involved, including sponsors Centre Solutions and Jupiter Asset Management. "We are looking forward to next year's on May 3, 2004," said Ms Hodgson.

Those searching for an excuse to wear fancy hats need not wait until then, however - the Sunshine League is having a follow-up Happy Hatters' Day on Friday, May 23.

"We ask people to wear a hat and make a donation to the Sunshine League," said Ms Hodgson. Companies interested in participating can call the Sunshine League.
