Celebrate Labour Day
Workers have been called to join in the celebration of Labour Day at a host of events planned for next weekend.
Bermuda Industrial Union (BIU) President Derrick Burgess said the festivities would commence with a banquet at the Southampton Princess, beginning on Saturday at 7.30 p.m., with a reception held between six and seven. The keynote speaker there will be independent Jamaican Senator Trevor Monroe. Tickets are available from the BIU at $50 each.
The next day there will be a service at Bethel A.M.E. church, beginning at 11 am, where there will be a performance by the world famous Bethel Assembly Choir. There will be a road race between TCD and the Union Headquarters, starting at 9 am on Monday.
The traditional march will begin at 11 am in Union Square, Hamilton and will be led by the Bermuda Regiment Band to Bernard Park, where there will be food stalls, majorettes and Gombey dancers. Mr. Burgess implored workers to come along and attend.
