Alleged rapist bailed

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis released the man on $5,000 bail after both his mother and father agreed to provide sureties. The couple lives separately, and the man lives with his mother.
The man is charged with the rape of a 14-year-old girl on the Railway Trail in Sandys Parish early on Sunday. He is also charged with assault with intent to rape, inflicting grievous bodily harm, and taking an auxiliary cycle without the owner's consent. All the offences are alleged to have occurred on Sunday in Sandys.
The man was remanded until May 26 for mention. As terms of his release, he must: Have no contact with the complainant; Observe a 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew; Report to Police three times a week; Live with his mother; and Abstain from alcohol.
