Juvenile act
Anti-Progressive Labur Party graffiti which appeared over last weekend has no place in Bermuda politics. The graffiti, depicting a Dennis the Menace type figure urinating on the PLP logo, is juvenile and meaningless. While this newspaper supports free speech, common sense dictates that this kind of mindless vandalism serves no purpose except to lower the overall tone of politics and, yes, that is possible. If common sense does not persuade whoever is responsible, then the strong possibility that this sort of behaviour may turn out to be self-defeating should. These kinds of acts tend to unite those they are trying to hurt more strongly and draw waverers to them, not against them.Bermuda is facing some of the most severe challenges it has been confronted with in decades. Whether an election is looming or not, the public deserves a mature and reasoned debate on the issues of the day and on the calibre and records of the Island’s political leaders. The public does not need immature name calling and juvenile depictions of any political groupings.
