Injured coach sets out on road to recovery

North Village coach Scott Morton is recovering on a general ward at King Edward Memorial hospital two days after a serious road accident.

The 35-year-old former Dandy Town and Hotels International player was en route to a relative's home on a motorcycle when he was involved in the accident with another bike near the junction of St.John's Road and Cox's Hill Pembroke on Monday.

Morton, who was knocked unconscious, suffered lacerations to the head, fractured ribs and a punctured lung in the collision and was yesterday said to be still experiencing pain.

When contacted, a member of Morton's family said they were relieved that he had regained consciousness and had been moved from the intensive care unit and onto a general ward.

Village president Shervin Dill wished his injured coach a "speedy recovery".

"Obviously we are very concerned for Scott," said Dill yesterday. "We are all pushing for him and hoping that he will be back with us as soon as possible."

In Morton's absence, Village recorded a convincing 5-0 Martonmere Cup semi-final win over Somerset Eagles on Tuesday night to book a second trip to the final of the 30 year-old competition in two years.

Dill said: "We were all shocked and saddened to hear the news of Scott's accident but I think that helped motivate the players last night (Tuesday).

"We hope that result helped to motivate him and that we can have him back in the very near future."

Meanwhile, defending Konica Cup champions Rude Girls secured their place in the November 11 Konica Cup final after brushing aside Dandy Stars 5-1 on Tuesday night at the National Sports Centre.

Both teams remained deadlocked at 1-1 at the half, however, like Village, Rude Girls opened the floodgates after the restart.

Prolific goalscorer Chevonne Furbert and the skilful Cheyra Bell each netted twice for Rude Girls, while Tiffany Swan scored the other. Tina Wall replied for Dandy Stars.

Rude Girls now await the winner of next week's remaining Konica Cup semi-final between PHC and Bisys Royals, formerly Hemisphere Royals, which will also take place at the National Sports Centre.
