Man handcuffed to police bike during violent arrest
A 22-year-old man was fined $1,300 and banned from driving for 12 months after being found guilty of drink driving, failing to stop for Police and violently resisting arrest.
Davon Daniels, of Lily Park lane, Cut Road, St. Georges, appeared at Supreme Court yesterday where Crown Counsel Nicole Smith said that on August 20, 2007, Police were on patrol on Middle Road when they spotted Daniels and a passenger on a motorcycle making a U-turn.
They instructed him to pull over, but Daniels turned onto Harbour Road and gave Police a high-speed chase which continued on toward Camp Hill when Daniels and passenger fell off the motorcycle.
Police then attempted to stop the two but the passenger escaped and Police and Daniels got into a violent scuffle which cause an officer minor injuries to his knee.
Eventually Police were able to apprehend Daniels by handcuffing his wrist to the Police motorbike. Daniels was taken to the Police station and asked to give a breath test.
Daniels gave two breath samples and the lower reading of the samples read 160 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood, which is twice the legal limit.
"I'm very sorry and I'd like to apologize to the public. I made a big mistake and I'll never do it again," he told Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons.
Mrs. Justice Simmons sentenced him to 12 months probation, which includes any rehabilitative services Probation Services deem appropriate in addition to a curfew of 10 p.m. for six months.
He was also fined $1,300, and banned from driving for 12 months.
