Man sent to prison for five months Toronto Darrell was sent to prison for five months this week after he admitted obtaining more than $500 from Rowe Spurling
His alleged accomplice Raymond Ray pleaded not guilty to the same charges.
Darrell, 29, of Random Lane, Warwick, pleaded guilty to uttering a false document and inducing an employee of Rowe Spurling to deliver cash and goods to him on March 12 at two different times that same day.
The total amount of paint supplies and cash was $510.
Sgt. Phil Taylor prosecuting said that the complainant reported that her Bank of Bermuda cheque book had been stolen from her Pembroke home.
Later she discovered that two cheques had been drawn on her account in favour of the Rowe Spurling paint store.
Darrell and another man were arrested for the offences. Darrell, who received a four-month jail sentence last week for an offence involving cheque fraud, had an additional month added to his sentence.
Senior Magistrate Will Francis said that his five-month sentence would run concurrently with the four months he is currently serving.
Meanwhile Darrell's alleged accomplice Raymond Ray denied stealing the cheques or receiving them knowing that they had been stolen.
He also pleaded not guilty to acting with Darrell to obtain a total of $510 in cash and goods from Rowe Spurling on March 12. Ray will be back before the court on May 5 for mention.
SOCIAL REPORT ORDERED FOR TEEN CTS Social report ordered for teen The Senior Magistrate this week ordered a social inquiry report for a Warwick teen who admitted possessing 0.12 grams of cannabis and drug equipment.
Logan Mello, 17, of Keith Hall Road, pleaded guilty to these offences in Magistrates' Court.
Police prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor said that Mello was at Hamilton Police Station on December 14, 1996 on another matter, when he was subjected to a search.
In his right hip pocket they found a Camel cigarette box that contained a homemade cigarette.
When asked what it was, Mello told Police that he did not know. In his wallet they found a set of Rizla papers.
Analysis revealed that there was 0.12 grams of cannabis inside the homemade cigarette.
Senior Magistrate Will Francis ordered a social inquiry report for Mello and bailed him on the sum of $500 with a like surety. He will be back in court on May 19 for sentence.
MAN ADMITS RESISTING ARREST CTS Man admits resisting arrest A Department of Agriculture and Fisheries employee was yesterday fined a total of $500 in Magistrates' Court after pleading guilty to one charge of obstructing Police officers from enforcing the Misuse of Drugs Act, and one count of violently resisting arrest.
Thirty-six-year-old Alan Gregory Wainwright of Smith's Parish was charged on the evening of April 7 after Police officers on patrol in the Devil's Hole area observed him and a second male conclude what appeared to be a drug transaction.
As Police approached the men Wainwright crossed to the north side of the street and began walking away with his right hands tightly clenched.
When officers caught up to him, Wainwright began to struggle, violently swinging his arms and tearing off the handcuffs and the tie of one constable, Police Prosecutor Sergeant Phil Taylor told Senior Magistrate Will Francis. He was eventually subdued and transported to St. George's Police station and charged.
Mr. Francis fined him $250 for each count.
THIEF FINED $300 FOR STEALING FRUIT CTS Thief fined $300 for stealing fruit A thief with a passion for citrus was fined $300 in Magistrates' Court this week.
Stanley Assing, 34, of Scott's Hill Road, Sandys, admitted the offences which occurred on January 9 and 25, 1997.
Police prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor said that Susan Patton of Sandys walked out into her orchard on January 9 and saw several oranges on the ground.
She looked up into the tree and saw Assing who told her he was taking some oranges. She promptly called Police and provided them with his description.
Later that month on January 25, Dr. George Shaw of Somerset saw Assing walking through his orchard around 10.30 a.m.
Since he has had several problems with persons stealing his fruit, Dr. Shaw went into the orchard and saw Assing attempting to climb a fence with a bag of grapefruit.
The grapefruit were valued at $17 while the oranges were valued at $30.
When asked whether he had anything to say Assing said: "What can I say about a couple of oranges? I admitted to (stealing them) and that's that.'' Senior Magistrate Will Francis fined Assing $150 on each count of stealing the fruit.
MAN FINED $300 FOR STEALING FRUIT CTS Man fined for drug equipment A 40-year-old construction worker was yesterday fined $200 in Magistrates' Court after pleading guilty to possession of drug equipment.
Ronald Dillas of Pembroke Parish was charged after Police officers on patrol the night of January 20 -- in the St. Monica's and Glebe Road area -- observed two men conducting what appeared to be a drug transaction.
The pair were approached and told they were to be searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act. As a result of the search Police found tucked into Dillas' coat pocket what appeared to be a glass bottle that had been modified into a pipe.
Lab analysis subsequently revealed traces of cocaine residue in the pipe.
Senior Magistrate Will Francis was told Dillas had an earlier drug-related conviction in December of 1991.
