Armed Police will be at Annual Exhibition

Armed police will again be at the Annual Exhibition this year, though fears of violence breaking out are not as pronounced as last year.The Exhibition, also known as the Ag Show, starts at 8am sharp today with horses on display in the main ring at the Botanical Gardens.The Bermuda Police Service confirmed the number of firearms officers has been increased and that they will be deployed “in support of the policing plan for the Exhibition”.Last year shortly before the Exhibition e-mails and texts spread across the Island warning of potential gang violence at the family friendly event. Violence did not break out and 31,000 attended the three-day event.This year the exhibition will feature the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show, recent contestants of the ‘America’s Got Talent’ TV show.Their first show, which includes two dogs competing in a logrolling competition, takes place at 10am today in the lower ring. There will also be a show at 4pm. Tomorrow the Lumberjack Show will perform at 10am and 3pm. On Saturday it will take place at 10am and 12pm.The Exhibition will also include performances by Harrington Sound Choir and Super Soundation, CedarBridge Academy String Ensemble, Berkeley Institute String Ensemble, Saltus Upper Primary Choir, Prospect Primary Choral Speakers, Sandys Secondary Middle School Drumline and Clearwater Middle School Mini Drumline to name a few.This year marks the 73rd Annual Exhibition in Bermuda and will include favourites such as the vegetable critters, pigs and woodwork on display. There will also be puppet shows, food stalls and face painting among other things.Premier Paula Cox will officially open the event at 1pm today.Tickets cost $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and children aged four to 16.The annual event is organised by the Department of Parks.
