Contest sails clear in dinghy fleet
honours with two victories and a second in yesterday's fitted dinghy racing in Granaway Deep.
Lewin and company picked up 151 points from the day's action and with only three race days remaining, they now have 621 points in the season-long cup competition -- 19 more than nearest challengers Port Royal , who with Willie White at the helm enjoyed one victory, a second and a third yesterday.
Going into yesterday's races, Elizabeth was Contest's closest rival but with Derek Ratteray filling in for regular skipper Malcolm Smith, she suffered a disastrous afternoon, failing to start the first race, finishing last in the second and again failing to make the start line in the third race, thus picking up just one point.
In the opening event for the Whitney Cup, Contest led the way from Victory (Alan Powell) with Port Royal taking third. Lewin again guided Contest to first place in the second race for the Hurst Cup with Port Royal taking second and Victory third.
But in the final race for the RHADC Cup, it was White's Port Royal that took the honours ahead of Contest and Victory .
