Optimist sailors set for Spring Series

BODA’s Spring Series, hosted by RHADC, gets underway tomorrow.

Bermuda Optimist Dinghy Association’s (BODA) Spring Series commences tomorrow.The series, hosted by Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club (RHADC), will run for the next four weeks.Tomorrow will see youth sailors competing in the RHADC Spring Dinghy Regatta. The day will also feature the second annual BODA Green Fleet day for novice sailors.“RHADC runs a full program of sailing classes including introductory Optimist, high performance Optimist, 420’s, 29’ers and keelboats plus high performance clinics and the ever popular Summer Program,” RHADC Sailing Committee Chairman Neil Redburn explained.“For 2012 we are delighted to introduce the O’pen Bic. This is a fun high performance, sport boat for juniors and adds a new exciting dimension to the sailing program.”Full details and the regatta schedule can be found at www.rhadc.bm.Upon the completion of sailing a barbecue will be held for all sailors and parents at RHADC as well as an informal prizegiving for Bermuda’s IODA World Championships team consisting of Rory Caslin, Mikey Wollmann, Antonio Bailey, Chase Cooper and Makia Joell.Bermuda’s team was decided by a 20-race series spanning four race days over three weekends that was won by Caslin who led the series from start to finish. Wollmann and Bailey, who represented Bermuda at this year’s Carifta Games at the National Sports Centre, rounded off the top three sailors.This year’s IODA World Championships will be held July 15 - 26 in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic.
