Gales and rough seas wreaked havoc upon the racing fleets at the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta in Weymouth, England yesterday.The adverse conditions ultimately caused organisers to reshuffle the schedule and postpone racing till noon today.In the hope of avoiding the approaching gale, organisers started racing earlier than originally planned.However, their attempts ultimately were in vain as all Olympic classes with the exception of the Stars only got at least one race completed.Among the hundreds of sailors competing at the World Cup regatta are Bermuda’s Jesse and Zander Kirkland.The brothers were among those who did not get out on the water yesterday.The 49er sailors failed to reach the Gold Fleet and will compete in the Silver instead when racing eventually resumes.With more adverse weather in the forecast, crewman Zander doubts racing will resume at all.“There’s a 10 percent chance of us sailing tomorrow, so likely the event is over,” he said.Rather than sit idle after racing was postponed yesterday the Kirklands put their spare time to good use, pumping iron in the gym.Organisers only managed to get in one race yesterday in the 49er Gold Fleet before the weather deteriorated.Defending champions Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen are the overall leaders in the 49er fleet.n Antonio Bailey currently leads the Gold Fleet after eleven races of Bermuda Optimist Dinghy Association’s (BODA) Spring Series.Bailey holds a five-point lead over nearest rival Rory Caslin with Mikey Wollman in third a further three points adrift.Chase Cooper and Campbell Patton round out the top five sailors in the Gold Fleet.Flo Nicholls currently leads the Silver Fleet by 12 points over nearest rival Grace Reeves. Tayte Stefaniuk sits in third.Felix Cutler leads the Bronze Fleet ahead of second and third placed Jordan Etamadi and Chris Adderley.The BODA Spring Series is being hosted by Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club (RHADC) and sponsored by the Todd Family Trust.
