Kidfest feast
performing arts'' this weekend in the latest show for Kidfest '99.
Tales & Scales, a non-profit organisation based in Indiana, was founded in 1986 to "fulfil a need for quality arts programming'' for children and family audiences.
The four-musician troupe -- made up of a classically-trained flutist, bass trombonist, saxophonist and percussionist -- gives more than 250 performances a year on various US symphony stages.
Their production of "The Enchanted Horn'' is based on a Grimm's Brothers fairy tale entitled "The Magic Fiddle''.
In the story, a hard-working young man sets off to see the world. Along the way, he acquires two strange powers -- the ability to have all his commands obeyed and a magic horn that causes everyone to dance whenever he plays.
Although the production is filled with humorous characters and situations, the story's message is about power and the responsibility that comes with it.
The show is on Sunday, February 21 at 1 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. at the City Hall Theatre. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the Phoenix Bookmart.
Telling tales: The four-member Tales & Scales ensemble, including percussionist Deborah Sunya Moore, saxophonist Robert Caron, flutist Cheryll Anderson and trombonist Christopher Balas will be wowing the kiddies at a performance of "The Enchanted Horn'' this weekend.
