‘Bermuda Docs’ line-up announced

Two documentaries from the Academy Awards shortlist, and the two major prize winners at North America’s top documentary festival, are among 11 films screening at the Bermuda Documentary Film Festival (Bermuda Docs), April 29-30-1May.‘Living in Emergency: Stories of Doctors Without Borders’ and ‘This Way of Life’, both of which qualified for the Oscar shortlist, will screen on the festival’s opening night.‘Autumn Gold’ won the Filmmaker’s Award at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, widely considered North America’s top documentary festival, while ‘Thunder Soul’ won the Audience Choice Award at Hot Docs as well as picking up audience awards at five other festivals.‘Autumn Gold’ finished second in audience voting at International Documentary Festival Amsterdam, while ‘Kinshasa Symphony’ and ‘The Green Wave’ also screening at Bermuda Docs finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in audience voting at Amsterdam, widely considered the world’s top documentary festival.‘Women Art Revolution’ achieved the rare distinction of screening at three of the world’s top festivals Toronto, Sundance and Berlin while ‘Pink Saris’ earned the Amnesty International Award at Copenhagen Docs, as well as top awards at Sheffield Docs, Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi. The festival also features three previously announced films the world premiere of Bermudian director Lucinda Spurling’s film, ‘Poverty in Paradise: The Price We Pay’, the 32-minute short film, ‘Higher Ground: The Cahow Translocation Project’, by the LookBermuda team of JP Rouja, Ben Watson and Milton Raposo and the international premiere of ‘Shed Your Tears and Walk Away’, directed by Bermuda-born Jez Lewis.
