Dance to a Latin beat for charity

A Latin Dinner and Dancing Charity Night in support of the Women’s Resource Centre takes place at The Reefs on Friday, September 26. From 6.30pm until 11pm, DJ Travis will play the best Latin and contemporary tunes. Tickets are $65, and include dinner, social dancing and a dance showcase. Part proceeds will benefit the Women’s Resource Centre. Tickets are available from www.pTix.bm, The Reefs or the Women’s Resource Centre.

One of Bermuda’s newest charitable organisations, HOUSE, a Men’s Resource Centre is hosting the HOUSE Family Fun Day, a fundraiser and awareness event at Bermuda Fun Golf on Saturday, September 27.

You are invited to bring friends and family to support the charity, whose mission is to renew families and the community by empowering men to succeed.

From 10am until 5pm, this promises to be a fun time for all ages as you play mini-golf at a reduced rate of $10 per person. There is music by DJ Siid James, Magic by Mr Slick, and a bike show with Bermuda Long Riders Motorcycle Club and Bermuda Classic Bike Club. Food and refreshments will also be sold at the event.

Learn the tips, tricks and magic of painting in oil at a two-day workshop with Rhona Emmerson, one of Bermuda’s leading oil painters.

Hosted by Bermuda Arts Centre, the workshop will run from 10am until 4pm on Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28. The cost is $175 for members or $200 for non-members. For more information, or to make a reservation, contact the Bermuda Arts Centre on 234-2809.

Enjoy a fun and interactive class, The Wonderful World of Crystals, on Saturday, September 27 from 4pm until 6.30pm at My Sereni-Tea.

Learn about the history of Atlantis and Lemuria, how crystals work and how they affect us as humans. The class cost is $65 and a $20 deposit is required to secure your space. A workbook will be included with a set of crystals. For more information, contact My Sereni-Tea on 296-2114.

The HOP Society (Happiness, Optimism, Possibilities) organise events for people over 50 years old to socialise, be informed and be entertained and the next will be on Tuesday, September 30. Starting at 1pm in the T N Nisbett Hall, Christ Church, Devonshire, the speaker for this event will be Trudy Snaith, who will give a talk on the value of etiquette in modern times.

Entertainment will be provided by Mike Perinchief and Friends singing your favourite tunes. You are encouraged to dance or sing along.

Join the Bermuda Shakespeare Schools Festival in celebrating William Shakespeare’s 450th birthday with an exciting programme at the Earl Cameron Theatre, City Hall from Tuesday, October 21 to Thursday, October 23. Once again, students from six of Bermuda’s secondary schools will bring shortened versions of Shakespeare’s classic plays to life inspiring a new generation with their love of the theatre. On Tuesday, October 21, Saltus Grammar School will perform The Tempest, followed by Somersfield Academy’s version of The Taming of the Shrew and CedarBridge Academy’s Othello. On Wednesday, October 22, the Berkeley Institute will perform Anthony and Cleopatra, The Bermuda High School will give their interpretation of Much Ado About Nothing while Warwick Academy will present Twelfth Night. On the Gala Night, Thursday, October 23, highlights from all six plays will be performed. Showtime is at 7pm each night. Tickets on Tuesday and Wednesday are $20 from www.pTix.bm or $25 at the door. Join Girlguiding Bermuda for a great family day as they raise funds to support girls of all ages across the Island at their FUNd Fair on Saturday, October 25. This will take place at St Paul’s Hall in Paget and, from 10am until 4pm, you can enjoy lots of games for all ages, White Elephant, tombola, crafts, refreshments and great raffles. The West End is once again being invaded by the undead on Saturday, October 25. The annual fundraising Zombie Walk will leave Greys Bridge at 11am and will have participants dressed as zombies shuffling their way to Somerset Village. The Village will be transformed into Mangrove Hallows with spooky family activities from noon until 4pm. This will include free children’s’ events, games, ghouls and prizes.
