Bridge skittled as Rangers stay top

Southampton Rangers 43-1 A day after succumbing to an embarrassing loss to PHC in the Western Counties Cup, Southampton Rangers bounced back to continue their march towards the Premier Division title.

Rangers brushed aside Somerset Bridge by nine wickets and remain on top of the table.

With Carl Garzette, Ryan Belboda and Michael Brangman snatching three wickets apiece, Southampton dismissed the home side for a paltry 42 in just 19.3 overs and then stormed to victory in just 4.4 overs.

Only one Bridge player reached double figures against the potent Southampton attack -- Deznil Dill making 15.

Brangman led the bowling with three for eight off four overs while Garzette returned three for 12 off six overs and Belboda three for 15 off seven overs.

Openers Clevie Wade and Janeiro Tucker quickly put Rangers on the road to victory with an opening stand of 31. After Tucker was dismissed for 13, Wade stayed around to finish with an undefeated 19.

Social Club 58 Warwick 55-2 At Southampton Oval, Warwick made short work of Social Club with an eight wicket drubbing.

With Reginald Pitcher and Ritchie Foggo in fine bowling form, Social Club's bats were always struggling. Pitcher finished with three for nine and Foggo three for 14.

Trent Simmons led Warwick in an easy run chase, hitting 29, while Daniel Caines struck 13 Police 223-9 PHC 71 Police scored a comfortable 152-run victory over the newly crowned champions of the Western Counties, thanks to some fine batting by Donovon Livingston, Freston Hurdle and Ferdinand Thorne.

Livingston stoked 47, Hurdle 44 and Thorne 40, leading Police to a formidable total. Richard Austin chipped in with 21 and Andrew Rollins 15.

Police lost three early wickets for just 16 before they were steered from further danger by the middle order.

Shoron Hunt led PHC bowlers with three for 32 from six overs while Neil Anglin had three for 48 from 10 overs. Cal Waldron finished with two for 38 from nine overs.

PHC suffered a dismal start in their reply, losing their first three batsmen for seven, and unlike Police they never recovered.

Cal Simons Jr. was top bat with 18 while Waldron followed with 12.

Millard Rawlins was the leading bowler for Police with two for four off just two overs while Dennis Archer took two for 13 off seven overs and Austin had two for 14 off four overs.

Cleveland 327-8 Devonshire Rec. 150 Carlton Smith hammered 128 and skipper Peter Philpott took three for 29 as Cleveland beat Devonshire Rec. by 177 runs at Wellington Oval.

Smith struck eight fours and six sixes during his innings. Also among the runs were D.Rabain with 35, Courtney Trott 30, Aaron Adams 28, Allan Douglas 27 and Philpott with 24.

Wendell Swan was the top bowler for Devonshire with three for 87 off eight overs while Winston Trott had two for 42 off five.

Ja Ja Millett slammed a courageous 80 as Devonshire tried to fight back, but the only reliable partner he could find was Dennis Williams who scored 21.

Nobody else reached double figures.

Also taking wickets for Cleveland was Hugh Murray with two for 28 off eight overs, including two maidens.

Flatts 253 St. George's 170 Fourth placed St. George's managed to field just 10 players and paid the penalty with this 83-run loss against a nine-man Flatts team at Devonshire Rec.

Seemingly having given up on the title race, St. George's endured a tough day in the field with Troy Dean leading Flatts in their run feast.

Dean made 88, Gershon Gibbons followed with 31 while openers Andrew Richardson, Quinn Outerbridge and Rahji Edness each chipped in with 26.

Ricky Hodsoll finished with three for 41 off seven overs while skipper Herbie Bascome took three for 51 off 10 overs, including three maidens.

Dexter Smith led St. George in reply with a brisk 61, putting on 85 with his opening partner Mark Ray who left the game for work early, undefeated on 37.

Earl Richardson was not out on 13, Ryan Steede 12 and Sinclair Gibbons 11.

Dwayne Leverock took three for 43 off 10 overs, Dean had two for 30 off 6.4 overs and Brandon Woolridge returned two for 37 off 10 overs.

Big hitter: Western Stars' Gary Brangman responded to a promotion in the batting order with 52 not out against the St. David's bowlers yesterday, smashing three fours and three sixes in his second straight 50 in the Premier League.
