man charged with indecently assaulting a woman two years ago.

Crown counsel Mr. Stephen Harrison said on Monday he would not be offering any evidence.

The Supreme Court heard the Bermudian complainant had left the Island and attempts to locate her had been unsuccessful.

A warrant for her arrest on another matter was outstanding, Mr. Harrison said.

"She is a fugitive from justice,'' said lawyer Mr. Archie Warner, who was representing the man.

The best course was for a jury to be sworn in and directed to find his client not guilty, he said.

Puisne Judge the Hon. Mrs. Justice Wade agreed.

The man had denied charges that on March 21, 1992 he assaulted the woman with intent to rape her and that he indecently assaulted her.

WORKING A HOTLINE GVT Bermudians needing to reach the Ministry of Works and Engineering after hours have been given a helping hand -- the Ministry is setting up a hot line specifically for the public's use.

The Minister of Works and Engineering, the Hon. Leonard Gibbons announced that the hot line became operational on Monday. This hot line will be accessible to callers after 5 p.m. on weekdays, and for 24 hours on weekends.

"This has been set up so that the public is more accessible to the Minister,'' a government spokesperson said. "Anyone with any questions, comments, or concerns can call 297-7783, and they will be able to leave their name and a contact number, along with their concerns and they will be taken care of.'' RIDER FINED $235 CTS A Paget man's apparent indifference earned him a month off the road and a $235 fine in Magistrates' Court.

Dean Anthony Edwards, 21, of Ord Road, pleaded guilty on Monday to speeding at 62 kph on December 7 and riding without a licence on February 9.

The speeding offence occurred on Crow Lane while the licence offence took place at the corner of St. John's and Berkeley Roads.

The Wor. Charles-Etta Simmons asked Edwards if he had a job and whether he needed his motorcycle to get to his job at Horizons and Cottages.

Edwards said: "It makes no difference to me.'' Noting his ambivalence, Ms Simmons fined him $100 for having no licence and a $235 fine for speeding. She then took him off the road for one month "to teach him a lesson.''
