Love is in the air

Animal-related vendors and services, an educational display, pet portraits and more entertained participants on the two courses of one and three miles in length.

Atelier Lounge, in association with Polished Nail Boutique, invite you to relax and unwind in a lounge-like atmosphere at Shoot Me With Your Love on Friday, February 14th. From 9pm at 56 Reid Street, you and your significant other can enjoy the open bar, light refreshments, door prizes and giveaways, and the music of DJs specifically chosen to create the right mood. St George’s Cricket Club invite you to hop aboard The Love Train on Friday, February 14th. Starring Bermuda’s own U-Fonics, the show will also feature music by ‘Malcolm Lethal’ Weapon Smith with Bootsie serving as MC. This event is sponsored by Gosling’s, so you can expect door prizes, special drink prices and more. Doors will open at 9pm and the show will start at 10.30pm. Tickets are $25, or $20 for members, and are available from Kit & Caboodle and St George’s Cricket Club. World Thinking Day is celebrated on February 22nd each year and is a special day for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts all over the world. To celebrate, there will be a special Girlguiding Thinking Day Service and Parade in Bermuda on Sunday, February 16th. The Girl Guide units will parade along Church Street from City Hall to the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity at approximately 2.30pm for the service. After the service, at around 4pm, they will parade to the Flag Pole on Front Street for the lowering of the Guide World Flag and the playing of Taps. The Parade will be led by the Somerset Brigade Band and the Bermuda Islands Pipe Band back to City Hall for dismissal. For more information, contact girlguides@northrock.bm.

The February edition of the Bermuda Docs Weekend Film Series will be on Sunday, February 16th in the usual location of the Tradewinds Auditorium at BUEI. ‘Music for Mandela’ will be showing at 3pm, followed by ‘More Than Honey’, a documentary tackling the vexing issue of why bees worldwide are dying off, at 5.15pm. Bermuda High School are hosting a craft market featuring some of Bermuda’s most talented local artists on Saturday, February 22nd. The BHS Craft Market and Table Sale will run from 10am until 2pm in the Queen Elizabeth Hall. Extra parking will be available in the car park on Woodbourne Road. Proceeds will help fund the cost of materials needed to help provide a clean water supply for a remote village in Om Goi in the Thai province of Chiang Mai. You are invited to grab your best walking shoes and your favourite canine for the Bermuda SPCA’s 17th Annual Paws to the Park Dog Charity Walk on Sunday, March 2nd. This sponsored one- or three-mile walk will start at St Paul’s Church Field, on the corner of Middle Road and Valley Road at 2pm. After the walk, there will be a bake sale and an SPCA table. The registration fee is $35 and the first 75 people will receive a goodie bag. Dogs are not mandatory so non-owners can still participate. All money raised goes directly towards the shelter’s operating budget in supporting the community’s unwanted or neglected animals. Bermuda Toastmasters invite you to their Annual Speech Contest in the church hall of the Bermuda Cathedral, from 5.30pm until 7.30pm on Tuesday, March 11th. The purpose of the event is to promote interest in public speaking, foster self-confidence, provide an opportunity for contestants to enhance their speaking skills, and to recognise the best as an encouragement to everyone. US Consul General Bob Settje invites the public to a free concert featuring the Harvard Krokodiloes, the Radcliffe Pitches, the Harvard Din & Tonics, and Bermuda Institute’s own En Harmony. Harvard in Hamilton for Families VIII will be on Thursday, March 20th at the Anglican Cathedral, Church Street, from 12.15pm until 1.15pm. Calling all green-fingered St Georgians, the St George’s in Bloom Competition will be returning for 2014. This will run from Sunday, May 11th to Sunday, May 18th and there are prizes to be won in nine different categories. Anyone in St George’s can enter and everyone is welcome. All of Bermuda are invited to join the fun on Sunday, May 18th in St George’s to show off their best floral decorated bicycles and floral decorated hats while they stroll through the town to see the lovely gardens.
