Appeal for local musicians to take up on-Island summer entertainment opportunities
Local musicians are being encouraged to apply for entertainment opportunities across the Island this summer.Tourism Minister Patrice Minors said providing local entertainers with more opportunities was one of her main goals.Earlier this week the Bermuda Department of Tourism issued two requests for proposals the first opportunity is in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Town of St George’s, five days a week.Government is looking to hire someone to entertain tourists from 12.20pm to 3.20pm Monday through Thursday and again on Saturdays. Individuals and bands must be able to commit to at least one month between May 2 and October 31.They are willing to play an individual musician $4,000 for the 60 hours of work a month while a duo would earn $6,000 and a trio would earn $7,000.A spokeswoman said: “The successful entertainer(s) must be able to perform in a professional manner, provide their own sound and all electronic equipment required to perform and dress appropriated for their style of entertainment.”The Department is also accepting applications from people interested in performing at the bi-monthly Bermuda Nights events at Barr’s Bay Park.The events take place every two weeks on Saturdays starting June 11 and last until October 15. The rates range from $150 for an MC and $200 for a single performer to $1,000 for a quartet. Each performance must last between 45 minutes to an hour.Anyone interested in either opportunity should drop off a proposal, including the name and background information on their act, their availability and monthly performance rates, to Stacy Evans at the Department of Tourism at 43 Church Street. The deadline for St George’s applications is April 20 while the deadline for Barr’s Bay Park is April 18.
