Mussenden, Wade contest BFA top spot
Bermuda Football Association's (BFA) presidential election will be held tonight at Young Men's Social Club with affiliates asked to choose between Larry Mussenden and Mark Wade.
The winner will serve for the remaining two years of Richard Calderon's four-year term.
Mussenden, who was ousted by Calderon two years ago hopes his extra experience, strong record at securing funds and organisational skills will convince the clubs to vote for him.
"We have a proven track record at securing funds whether they be from Government, corporate sponsors or other revenue streams," Mussenden said.
"I've heard people say I'm not a football man ... but I've made a contribution to football in Bermuda and internationally on Caribbean Football Union committees, Concacaf committees and FIFA committees."
Wade, though, points to his 30 years of involvement in club football and has the upper hand in terms of his technical knowledge of the game.
"I think you would have to go quite a way back to find someone who has that sort of background," said the PHC vice-president.
"When the affiliates come to me they will know I have experienced some of the issues they are talking about."
Back in July, outgoing president Calderon announced he was quitting his post so he could devote more time to his new job. "A recent change in employment and the demands of my new position has required that I step down from my role as the president of the Bermuda Football Association (BFA), effective the night of the BFA's Annual General Meeting, scheduled for late September."
Cal Blakendal is running unopposed for vice-president as Lee Holder is stepping down.
Andrew Griffith, also part of Mussenden's 'Trio Ticket' team looks a shoo-in as treasurer as no one is running against him to replace the suspended Ray Jones.
Anthony Francis, Shequita Parson, Thaaqib Talbot and Troy Brimmer are all seeking another two-year term as executive members. Former national team goalkeeper Dwayne (Streaker) Adams could join them on the board while Wade has also put his name forward if he does not win the presidency.
Jon Beard, Hewvonnie Brown, Mark Trott, Stephen Proctor and Robert Calderon have all decided against serving again. The association will start their Annual General Meeting at 6.30 p.m. and then a secret ballot will be held with representatives from each of the Premier and First Division clubs, the Referees' Association and the Bermuda School Federation each getting a vote.
