Thief gets green light

Also stolen on Monday were a leather briefcase and a black portable Fisher CD and dual cassette player. The items were taken from a car which was parked overnight on Tee Street in Devonshire.

Police also reported two break-ins which occurred on Monday night. Some $80 in cash was stolen from the register of a Court Street business, while it wasn't immediately known if anything was taken from a home entered on Vesey Street in Devonshire.

GAZETTE EMPLOYEE STOLE CHEQUES CRM Gazette employee stole cheques A social inquiry report has been ordered for a former Royal Gazette Limited employee who pleaded guilty yesterday to charges of stealing, forging and uttering paycheques belonging to co-workers.

Sgt. Earl Kirby, prosecuting, said Raymond O. Harford took the cheques from a tool box, where the printing staff's paycheques were placed if they were not collected from the accounting office.

Harford stole four cheques worth $549.99 in total between October 2 and 12.

All of the cheques were returned to The Royal Gazette Limited stamped "cashed'', and Police inquiries were conducted.

The 35-year-old initially denied the thefts, but eventually made a statement to Police.

The Cedar Avenue, Pembroke, resident will appear in two weeks for sentencing.

ARGUMENT LED TO FRACTURED JAW CTS Argument led to fractured jaw A Southampton man was put on one year's probation yesterday for fracturing the jaw and chin bone of an acquaintance as they argued over the ownership of a pair of headphones. Andrew B. Browne of Riviera Crescent pleaded guilty last month to causing grievous bodily harm to Angelo Williams last November 17.

Williams underwent surgery for his injuries and had his jaw wired for a number of weeks.

A social inquiry report on the 23-year-old construction worker was ordered by magistrate the Wor. John Judge.

Before passing sentence, Mr. Judge told Browne: "You've gone too far. You must control your temper.

"You could do with guidance from an older, more mature man.'' OFF THE ROAD CTS Off the road A 62-year-old Pembroke man was fined $500 and disqualified from driving for 18 months in Magistrates' Court yesterday after pleading guilty to driving while impaired.

Herbert Brangman was arrested by Police after he was involved in a collision with a motorcycle on Dutton Avenue in Pembroke on Christmas Eve. The Spanish Point Road resident told the officers: "I had a few drinks.'' A subsequent alco-analyser test revealed 155 milligrams of alcohol per 80 millilitres of blood.

TWO TOO MANY CTS Two Too many A Pembroke man who told Police he "only had two beers'' pleaded guilty yesterday in Magistrates' Court to driving while impaired.

Stephen Woodhouse was seen driving erratically along Front Street by a Police patrol on December 20.

An alco-analyser test taken by the Point Finger Road resident showed 200 milligrams of alcohol per 80 millilitres of blood.

Magistrate the Wor. John Judge fined Woodhouse $400 and disqualified him from driving for one year.

CYCLIST BANNED CTS Cyclist banned A 39-year-old Portuguese national was fined $450 and given a 18-month driving ban in Magistrates' Court yesterday after pleading guilty to riding his motorcycle while impaired.

Jose Rego Regalo was stopped by Police on December 20 as he rode along Church Street.

The St. Michael's Road resident was found to have a blood-alcohol level of 200 milligrams of alcohol per 80 millilitres of blood.
