Crime Stoppers to hold virtual film festival

Film lovers unable to visit the cinema during the current coronavirus pandemic can still catch some of the latest Oscar-nominated movies later this month.

The 2021 Crime Stoppers Weekend Film Experience will be hosting a virtual festival that subscribers can access through their Smart TV or computer.

The series of films – including Mirani, The Father, and Promising Young Woman, has been selected by film maker Andrew Stoneham.

Mr Stoneham said: “During this Covid-19 crisis, we are facing unprecedented turmoil that has a direct impact on every aspect of our lives.

“The things we took for granted are now closed or no longer functional, jobs have been lost, and in all the world’s major towns and cities, cinemas and theatres have been dark.

“With all that’s going on, I was happy to innovate this year’s film weekend by going virtual so that Bermuda can still have the unique opportunity to experience an array of excellent films which they would normally not have the chance to view.”

Carlnika Roser, the chairman of Crime Stoppers added: “Hosting our fourth Annual Film Festival has become a challenge due to Covid-19, and we have had to pivot to a virtual event.

“But we encourage the community to take advantage and enjoy the Weekend Film Experience while supporting a worthy charity and staying safe.

“Crime Stoppers Bermuda has adapted this year’s event to the ‘Screening Room’, in an innovated way to screen Academy Awards nominated film to our audience, and we would like to thank Andrew Stoneham and our sponsors and donors for helping make this possible.“

The films can be accessed from tomorrow through to Sunday, April 25. Patrons and sponsors will have access to an executive account and the general audience can join this experience through their personal account.
