Career guide launched

Information technology is the focus of a new Careers Guide for students.The Department of E-Commerce yesterday launched the 2008/09 Careers Guide, which contains information on various Information Technology careers in Bermuda, as well as IT courses and scholarships. There are also interviews with young Bermudians in the field, such as Michelle Walkes – consultant for the TCD RFID project.The Guide, which is being handed out at today's Careers Fair at Bermuda College, contains information on positions such as IT Support Technician, IT Analyst and Technical Support Analyst, as well as where to go online to find information on up to 30 IT-related careers. It also includes information on Government and private sector scholarships.

Terry Lister, Minister of Energy, Telecommunications and E-Commerce, said: "I urge you to take advantage of the information available in this Guide, on all you need to know about IT careers in Bermuda.

"With the tough world economic climate in 2008 looking to extend well into 2009 at the very least, IT careers are well-positioned to weather the economic storm."

The E-Commerce Advisory Board, the IT industry, training providers, the Bermuda College and Bermuda Careers Centre also contributed to the Guide.
