Burglar, surprised in the act, says ‘hello’ to frightened woman
A brazen drug-addicted burglar crawled in through the window of a woman’s home in broad daylight and said “hello” to her.Trevor Boyles, 34, admitted entering the home at Riddell’s Bay Road with intent to steal.Addressing his Magistrates’ Court hearing yesterday, prosecutor Nicole Smith said victim Linette Mayne was sitting in a recliner chair at her home around 2.55pm on May 10 when her burglar alarm went off.The alarm system indicated the window was open in the master bathroom, and Ms Mayne watched as Boyles tried and failed to push up the window and climb in.He managed, on the second attempt, to force open the window and climbed headfirst into her house. At this point, according to Ms Smith, Ms Mayne ran into the garage to get away from Boyles. He then exited through the same window headfirst, and as he got up again, said “hello” to her.He fled and the police were called. Forensic examiners found Boyles’ DNA at the scene and he was detained near the scene, on Middle Road, Warwick.Ms Smith described Boyles as an unemployed, self-confessed drug addict who has previous convictions including burglary and knife possession.Defence lawyer Saul Dismont said the addictions are to cocaine and heroin.Boyles told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner: “As a matter of fact I don’t have a violent record, just that one time I got caught with a knife when I was trespassing.”Mr Warner ordered pre-sentence reports and remanded Boyles into custody until August 2 when he will be sentenced.
