Jilted lover faces deportation
home country unaccompanied after he attacked a love rival in Bermuda.
Peter Grimes, 37, will remain in Police custody over the weekend and will reappear in Magistrates' Court today when arrangements for his travel back to the UK are to be determined.
Grimes appeared in court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to punching Oliver Taylor at a Dockyard restaurant on January 10.
The attack occurred, the court heard, after Grimes flew to Bermuda to see Caroline Robinson -- with whom he had been involved in a relationship -- and discovered that she was having a relationship with Mr. Taylor.
A protection order was issued following the attack but Grimes was later picked up by Police on the Railway Trail in Somerset near Mr. Taylor and Ms Robinson's home.
In an unusual three-way deal between Police prosecutions, Grimes' lawyer Paul Harshaw and Mr. Taylor's lawyer Michael Smith, Grimes was given a conditional discharge for his attack on Mr. Taylor and it was agreed that he would be deported.
Grimes was due to fly last week but Immigration officials would not allow him to board the plane unaccompanied.
After appearing in court he was remanded in Police custody until today when a decision will be made on how he should leave the Island.
