Bermuda skipper David Hemp made no attempt to fudge his team's lopsided defeat against the MCC.The touring cricket ambassadors produced a fine all round display at the National Sports Centre to get back to winning ways after going down heavily against the Island's 2007 World Cup squad earlier in the week.Even though Bermuda's team comprised mostly of fringe players, Hemp said he felt the team chosen was still capable of rising to the occassion.“Yes it's a young team, but we still did too many basic things wrong today. Irrespective of your age you have to do the basics well to form some sort of consistency, and if you do that regularly then you are going to put yourself in winning positions, and unfortunately we didn't do that today,” he lamented.“We made some basic errors in the field and when you are playing against good players you have to take your chances, and we didn't quite do that. We were confident chasing their total and needed a platform to chase that total. But we lost too many wickets early, and it was difficult to get back in the game.”As humbling as the outcome might have been, Hemp reckons there are still positives the hosts can take away from the match.“Some of the younger players got in and looked fine,” he said. “Lateef Trott also bowled well once he got settled in, so of course there's positives to take from the match.”MCC skipper Craig Wright took his team's convincing win all in stride, admitting that it felt good to get back to winning ways after completely losing the plot against Bermuda's 2007 World Cup squad.“I think we were disappointed with our performance the other night. Obviously T20 is a different game to 50 over cricket and we were looking forward to getting back to the 50 over game, which suits a lot of our batsmen a lot more than T20 does,” he said.“But certainly we wanted to put in a much better performance than the other day and we've obviously done that and are quite pleased about it.”Influential in the MCC's lopsided win were top order batsmen Will Jones (129) and Chris Thompson (64) who produced 152 runs for the second wicket and skipper Wright who claimed three for 29 with his off-break spin.“Will and Chris put together a fantastic partnership to get us into a great position where we could get 270, which on that wicket I thought was a good score,” Wright said.“I think we bowled good in patches and were lucky to get a couple of wickets up front that put Bermuda on the back foot. We then managed to keep picking up wickets and bowled them out for a fairly low total.”
