Wainwright leaves Durham for league rivals

Controversial exit: D'Andre Wainwright, pictured celebrating scoring for Durham, has left the club to join Northern League Division Two rivals Billingham Synthonia FC

D’Andre Wainwright has parted ways with struggling Durham City.

The former Bermuda Under-20 striker officially signed with Durham’s Northern League Division Two rivals Billingham Synthonia.

The move arrives just days after Wainwright netted his eighth goal in nine appearances in a 3-2 defeat away to West Allotment Celtic on Wednesday.

“We are delighted to announce the signing of centre forward D’Andre Wainwright from Durham City,” read a statement that Billingham posted on Twitter. “He’s already scored eight goals this season in a struggling team.

“He’s a player that a lot of clubs were interested in and we are delighted he has chosen us at Synners.

“The Bermuda Under-20 international is young and will develop his game even further with us. Welcome to Synners.”

Wainwright is now poised to make his debut for Billingham against former club Durham who the former will host in the league at the Norton Sports Complex on Saturday.

The former Somerset Trojans player started the season with a bang after firing hat-trick on his club debut for Durham in a 4-3 defeat at home to Willington last month.
