Imagine Bermuda is inviting residents to come together this Sunday in a service of “reflection and reconciliation” at St Paul's AME Church.“This observance will mark the anniversary of a watershed in Bermuda history, the peaceful culmination of the general strike of 1981” said Imagine founder Glen Furbert.Bishop elect of the Anglican church Rev Nicholas Dill and Rev Nicholas Tweed will co-host the service.“The fact that the largest ever and most contentious labour dispute - back in 1981 - ended peacefully, cannot be overemphasised. Especially considering the turbulence of the '70s.“This was due to the collaboration and engagement of many, including Canon Thomas Nisbett and the late Larry Lowe, the then pastor of St Paul which became an enclave at the time.“That said, as with any human endeavour, mistakes were made on all sides. Hence our theme - 'reflection and reconciliation.'”Mr Fubler said that as conflict is a natural part of being human, “the only question is how we manage conflict in a way that maintains the ties that bind, that holds community together.”Imagine Bermuda is also asking the community to support the Island's food programmes as an “act of solidarity with those most affected by the current economic crisis”.The service at St Paul's AME on Court Street begins at 10:45 am on Sunday.Imagine Bermuda describes itself as a “diverse group of Bermuda residents seeking cohesion through a community dialogue that promotes a shared vision for Bermuda.”
