MPs set to discuss airport parking

Transport Minister Ewart Brown will put forward a regulation change allowing for a $5 a day charge for leaving vehicles at the airports for long periods.

Also on the agenda for today's session of the House of Assembly is a debate on an amendment to the Clean Air Act which would allow tighter control of air pollution from some types of business.

The amendment, to be brought forward to the House of Assembly by Environment Minister Arthur Hodgson, will include vehicle spray painting shops, dry cleaners and businesses using non-portable engines to be included in licensing laws.

Mr. Hodgson will be back on his feet again to put forward a bill to repeal the current system of licensing for docks.

At present, anyone who wants to build a dock has to double up on the bureaucracy by applying to both the Environment Ministry and the Works and Engineering Ministry for substantially the same permission.

The bill was earlier withdrawn by Mr. Hodgson for a check after Shadow Legislative Affairs Minister queried what would happen to licences already issued if the law was repealed.

Licences include conditions on maintenance of the dock and the surrounding seabed area.

And a new law designed to end the power of Coroner's juries to finger a suspect in cases of murder is set to get MPs's final seal of approval today.

At its last sitting, the Coroner's Amendment Bill was backed by both sides of the House of Assembly.

And it is expected to sail through its third and final reading this morning.
