Latin rebrands with new name and menu

Popular restaurant Latin has changed its name and its menu with a focus on beef following in the tradition of Brazilian steakhouses.

The eatery, which is run by the Island Restaurant Group Ltd. (IRG), will today become known as Latin Churrascaria ~ Fine Steaks & Nuevo Latino Cuisine and has launched a new list of lunch and dinner offerings.

Philip Barnett, president of IRG, said that management decided to cash in on the success of its Chimichurri Churrasco dish – grilled skirt steak with an Argentinian Chimichurri dipping sauce.

"That one item outsold all other entrees on the menu by a significant amount, and when canvassing some of our better regulars they confirmed that it is one of the best tasting steaks on the Island," he said. "So we brainstormed, and pole vaulting with that success, came up with the idea of evolving into more of a steakhouse concept."

The restaurant, which opened two years ago, boasts an impressive array of talent and knowledge of beef in the form of executive chef Derek Myers and chef de cuisine Tom Tabor.

Robert Saunders, manager of Latin, said he hoped the new transition would appeal to all tastes.

"Our very location, right in the heart of Hamilton's newest financial district, has always made us somewhat of a business person's destination, for client functions or power dinners with associates," he said. "What is more business oriented that a great steak, at a great price, and a fabulous bottle of wine?"

"However, those items that were the regulars' favourites such as table made guacamole, and the selection of delicious paellas are all still there, which is why our name is now Latin Churrascaria ~ Fine Steaks and Nuevo Latino Cuisine."
