The Government made “significant investments” to allow civil servants to work from home, the Premier said yesterday.

However no decision has yet been made about keeping Government employees at home to work as a cost-cutting measure.

In a wide-ranging interview with The Royal Gazette, David Burt said: “There hasn’t been a full discussion on that.

“What’s important to note is the Government made steps to try to reduce the government estate as much as possible.”

He added: “We made significant investments to promote and support remote work.

“We are implementing a new phone system, which I discussed during the Budget debate, which will allow people to work from home and have virtual phones. We are enabling that to happen.

“For the most part, we leave it up to the managers and the managers’ discretion.”

Mr Burt said Derrick Binns, the head of the public service, made adjustments as required.

“Ultimately we want to be past the place where there is local transmission.”
