Bail Act could be in the pipeline
help under an anticipated piece of new legislation.
The Royal Gazette understands that a Bail Act is scheduled to appear before the House of Assembly during the autumn session.
And part of the Act may contain provisions for a local bail bondsman.
Currently there is no official bond structure in Bermuda. With one in place, the number of people remanded in custody because of insufficient funds to post bail could be reduced.
And it would also benefit individuals who need to post bail with a like surety who are unable to find relatives or friends willing to do so.
Several Government officials have admitted that there was "something in the works'', but neither Chief Parliamentary Counsel Norma Staines nor Acting Attorney General William Pearce returned phone calls to confirm.
