Rangers get better of tourists
Villagers wrapped up their whirlwind tour of Bermuda with a 27-run loss to Southampton Rangers, giving them a one win, one loss record, after having previously defeated Western Stars in Saturday's opening fixture.
Batting first at Southampton Oval, the home side wracked up 218-for-nine in their allotted 40 overs, with captain Janeiro Tucker top scoring with 60, followed by 40 from the bat of Ian Armstrong, and 31 from Garry Williams.
Sam Belnavis was the best bowler for the New York outfit, seizing three for 25, while Leroy Bedassee added three scalps of his own, and Byron Brown two.
Villagers replied with 191 all out, as skipper Glendon Dwyer found reliable partners hard to come by, but managed to lead the batting response with 72 before being last out.
Ozzie Champagnie managed 28 and Lloyd Douglas 24, as his only support.
Olin Jones took three for 20, while Clevie Wade and Ryan Belboda each notched two wickets.
Meanwhile, Saturday saw Villagers capture the Ratteray, Wilkin, Butler, Pitter, Thompson Cup with a six-wicket triumph over Western Stars.
The cricketers were accompanied by a netball team that went one better taking both their matches against Bermuda Netball Association Select outfits.
