Locomotion Too’s large numbers of regular customers have been expressing their sorrow that this treasure trove of footwear will be gone when owner Winifred Daniels closes the doors of her Washington Mall shop for the last time today.“Yes, it is very sad,” said one yesterday as she purchased three pairs of shoes at the store’s closing sale. Another shook her head, and said that she didn’t know where she was going to find the footwear she wanted after the store shuts.Locomotion Too has been packed with customers during its closing sale, buying high fashion as well as hard-to-find shoe styles and brands before it closes for good, and taking advantage of the clearance sale prices.The store became known for its large collection of exquisite evening shoes, often available with matching evening purses for parties and formal occasions, as well as carrying a good choice of larger sizes in both evening shoes and daytime footwear. Ms Daniels carried a full range of high quality day shoes, as well as boots. She specialised in shoes for weddings and offered a custom dying service so the bridesmaid’s and bridal slippers would match the gowns.The store owner had been employed at the store prior to deciding to purchase it from former Hamilton Mayor Sutherland Maderios about a decade ago.Then, her shop was located on the Church Street walkway of the Washington Mall. In recent years Ms Daniels moved the store to another Washington Mall location inside the building, again on the second floor.She described her customers as “loyal, always”, many of whom have purchased shoes from her from her very first days of owning the store. “I want to say a big thank you to them,” she said.Ms Daniels has always worked, but now she is ready to retire and plans to travel and visit friends, and then keep busy with crocheting and reading.
