Thieves enjoy busy weekend
Bermudiana Arcade on Queen Street over the weekend.
The thieves smashed a large glass panel in the door of the store to gain entry before taking the cash from the register.
Police are also investigating two other break-ins reported on the weekend.
An apartment on Judkin Lane, Smith's was ransacked on Friday evening. A sliding glass door was forced open by the thieves who made off with a colour television, a Nokia stereo system, an RCS satellite receiver, a Cedar TV cabinet, two bottles of loose change and several compact discs.
And two cedar tables were taken from the home of an 84-year-old Warwick woman while she was in hospital.
The tables, worth $500 each are said to be of great sentimental value to the senior citizen. Anyone with any information on any of the thefts should contact Police on 295 0011.
DAB OKAYS BEACH FENCING PLN DAB okays beach fencing A private South Shore club has received planning permission to build snow fencing along the base of its beach's sand dunes.
The move is an effort to prevent sand erosion in the area, said Coral Beach & Tennis Club general manager Glenn Shorto late last week.
The Paget beach was hit quite hard in past storms, he noted, and suffered massive amounts of sand loss. This had made beach access and, in particular, vegetation planting very difficult.
The four-foot high fencing is similar to that put up by Elbow Beach Hotel on its stretch of beach last year and consists of coloured mesh fencing stretched between wooden posts.
The Development Applications Board, in granting planning permission, said that the permission was temporary and the use of the fence would have to be discontinued after March 10, 2001.
