Former employee sues newspaper
wrongful dismissal.
A writ against Editor Mr. David L. White, The Royal Gazette Ltd., and Bermuda Press (Holdings) Ltd. was filed in Supreme Court yesterday by Canadian Mr.
Jeffrey Koller.
In a statement of claim, Mr. Koller alleges he began a three-year contract at the newspaper in January of 1993 but was "wrongfully dismissed'' on or about March 27, 1995.
The statement also alleges that Mr. White slandered Mr. Koller in a statement he made to the Bermuda Sun newspaper on or about April 6.
Mr. Koller is represented by lawyer Mr. Julian Hall. His employment was terminated along with that of Taste reporter Miss Nancy Acton after the spelling of a photographer's name was tampered with in a photo credit.
He is seeking $32,249 in lost salary plus $10,000 in moving and relocation costs.
Mr. Koller "was in no way responsible for the prank -- and I put it no higher than that -- which was visited upon the newspaper,'' Mr. Hall said.
"The matter was handled properly, and we will defend the case,'' said Royal Gazette general manager Mr. Keith Jensen.
