Zara DeSilva yesterday played in two semi-finals at the Pomander Gate Junior Open and today is scheduled to play in two more at the Port Royal Open.

She has reached the finals in three events of the junior tournament and will play in the semi-finals of the Ladies A, Ladies B and Ladies doubles events in the Open.

The Pomander Gate tournament began on Monday and ends today. Finals at the Port Royal tourney, now in its second week, go tomorrow.

On Wednesday, John Wardman pulled off an early upset at Pomander Gate, eliminating the under-16 division's top seed, Craig Bean, 7-6, 7-6. Wardman is the number one seed in the under-14 division and has reached the finals of both.

Although she is of junior age, Danielle Paynter, participating in her first Island tournament since representing Bermuda in the Federation Cup two months ago, is concentrating on the Port Royal, where she is top seed in women's singles.

Key match today sees promising junior Jensen Bascome, the number three seed, taking on Pomander Gate pro -- and number two seed -- Dean Mello in the semi-finals.
