The island’s death toll from Covid-19 has reached 30, the health minister announced last night.

Kim Wilson offered her condolences to the family of the victim as the island marked the second death from the disease inside three days.

The news was announced as 29 new cases of the coronavirus were identified out of 2,855 test results that came back to health officials.

Three of the new cases came in from overseas, all non-resident seafarers who tested positive on arrival.

Two arrived last Thursday and one arrived on Friday.

A total of 20 of the cases were logged as on-island transmissions with known contacts, and six cases – all in residents with no known links or recent travel history – are under investigation.

There have been 146 recoveries since the update last Saturday.

There are 426 active cases - the lowest since March 30 - and 406 are being monitored by public health officials.

A total of 20 are in hospital - the lowest since April 4 - , with three in intensive care.

The island has recorded 2,422 confirmed cases of the coronavirus since the pandemic hit last March.

A total of 1,966 people have recovered.

There have been 1,692 cases identified as on-island transmission, with 1,430 of them listed as having a known contact.

There are 262 on-island cases with unknown contacts, and 436 are under investigation.

The seven-day average of the real-time reproduction number is 0.48 and the island’s country status remained at “community transmission”.

Ms Wilson said the drive- and walk-though “close to home” vaccine programme would run tomorrow from 10am to 2pm at the Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Centre in St David’s.

The clinic was set up for residents who have not yet registered for the jab, do not have internet access, or want to register in person.

Doctors on site will answer questions on the vaccine.

Ms Wilson appealed to the East End population to use the service.

The vaccine programme will move to Sandys Secondary Middle School on Thursday and the National Sports Centre in Devonshire on Sunday.

Ms Wilson said the Bermuda College vaccination centre would take walk-ins every day to Friday this week from 9am to 1pm.

She added people with vaccination appointments at Bermuda College may be asked to go to the old wing of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for the jab.

She added the vaccination hotline was contacting people to confirm dates and times of switched appointments.

Ms Wilson said free public bus transport to Bermuda College was on offer for walk-ins.

The buses will be available on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for residents of The Glebe Road and Pond Hill, Friswell’s Hill, near St. Monica’s Mission, Government Gate, Cedar Park, Frog Lane, Palmetto Road; or North Shore near Dock Hill, Grace Church and First Church of God.

The buses will leave from the top of The Glebe Road, outside Pembroke Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Prospect Primary School, and North Shore Road at the four inbound bus stops, marked with the pink pole, from Dock Hill to Ducking Stool East, next to Clarke’s Lane.

Buses will leave at 9.30am, 10.30am, 11.30am and 12.30pm every day.

Ms Wilson said that after walk-ins were given the vaccine, the bus would return people to the stop where they were picked up.

Ms Wilson reminded people already registered for the vaccine to check their confirmation e-mails for the time and place.

She told the public: “Do the research, talk with your doctor and make an informed decision about getting the Covid-19 vaccine.”
