Bermuda batsman Chris Douglas has been kicked off the national team for ‘failing to maintain tour standards’.However, Bermuda Cricket Board refused to specify what those standards were, or how Douglas had broken them.Douglas had been due to travel to Florida in a week’s time for the ICC Americas Division One tournament, where Bermuda will try to qualify for the World Twenty20 global qualifiers in Dubai next March.“Chris Douglas has been dropped for not sticking to tour standards,” said head coach David Moore.This latest incident is bound to raise questions over Douglas’ international future, coming on the back of his decision to retire from international cricket last summer.Then, Douglas apparently clashed with Moore over fitness tests he was asked to do and reportedly told the head coach ‘he wasn’t feeling it’.In an interview with The Royal Gazette columnist Clay Smith, Douglas said his motivation ‘had been put on hold’, and he felt the team were ‘just going through the motions’.However, this time around the reasons for Douglas being dropped are not believed to be down to a personality clash nor a lack of motivation.For Moore his most pressing problem now is finding a last-minute replacement for the Willow Cuts player.With Stephen Outerbridge already missing, Moore’s batting options are limited, especially as Jason Anderson, Chris Foggo and Dion Stovell have already been ruled out for personal reasons.Of the three reserves named alongside the official 14-man squad, Dennico Hollis has already been drafted in to replace Outerbridge, while Lateef Trott and Jordan DeSilva are bowlers.Moore though needs another batsman, even though there are very few to chose from.Terryn Fray’s 43 against St David’s yesterday might have come at the right time, although of the first 25 balls he faced yesterday, he failed to score from 21, which might not be good enough for international cricket.Irving Romaine was originally left out because of concerns over a broken finger but could now get a reprieve, although as with any player Moore approaches, getting them time away to play could be an issue.
