Augustus claims second Championship

Championship winner Daniel Augustus

Daniel Augustus captured a second Bacardi National Par 3 Championship title in five years at Turtle Hill Golf Club yesterday.

Augustus completed the 36-hole event with a two-over-par 110 that left him three shots clear of nearest rival Dywane Pearman. The inaugural winner of the tournament had two birdies and four bogeys in his round yesterday. He was at level par after a first round played in wet and windy conditions, which allowed him to grab a share of the overall lead with amateur Jarryd Dillas. Scott Roy was third in the professional field on 115.

Will Haddrell won the men’s amateur division in a sudden-death play-off with Dillas after they had finished tied on 112, four over par.

David Smith, with 113, completed the top three in the amateur field.

Jeffrey Lindo won the senior division and with it the Lionel Pengelly Trophy after carding 118. Lindo held a two-shot lead over Hav Trott heading into the final round and held his rival at bay, with Trott finishing tied with Craig Christensen on 121.

The women’s division was also decided by a play-off, between Kathy Lloyd-Hines and Katyna Rabain, who ended regulation on 124. Hines clinched the title on the second extra hole.

Linda Down was third on 125. The top ten finishers in each division qualified for the Grey Goose World Par 3 Championship to be held at Turtle Hill in March.

In addition to the local qualifiers, the championship will feature as many as 100 overseas players.
