The Victory Squat: Key to winning the battle for toned legs

Super minis and the shortest shorts are the fashion this summer, making toned legs all the more important.Personal trainer Ana Slater-Steede is a holistic practitioner certified in several modalities including yoga, Pilates, yogilates and a meditative dance form called danskinetics. She operates out of Lotus on Victoria Street.She recommends an exercise called the victory squat for a good toning of the entire leg.Exercise: Victory squatMuscles worked: calves, hamstrings, quadricepsTechnique:1) bring legs a bit wider than hip distance apart feet facing out, hands on the hips2) bend and straighten the knees then bend again3) bring arms to the sides bending the elbow hands pointing up4) inhale and raise the heels5) exhale and put the heels back down6) inhale and raise the heels7) straighten the knees8) exhale and bring the heels down9) bend the knees10) inhale and raise the heels11) repeat techniques seven through ten.Start this exercise doing five repetitions and work your way up to five sets of five repetitions daily, or least three times a week.Watch Ms Slater Steede-demonstrate the technique at www.royalgazette.com or contact her directly on 232-0784 for further information.
