Corange to be honoured for community service
Bermuda-based Corange Ltd. will this November be honoured at the National Council for Resource Development (NCRD) Benefactor Awards Banquet in Washington D.C. for philanthropic activities benefiting The Bermuda College.
Corange, after nomination from the college, has won the Benefactor Award for Region II (New York, New Jersey, the US Virgin Islands and Bermuda).
Corange is a world leader in diagnostics, therapeutics, biotechnology and orthopaedics, and is one of ten individual and corporate contributors who are being honoured for service to communities.
Corange, parent to Boehringer Mannheim and DePuy Group of Companies, was selected because of a million dollar gift to the college and a continuing relationship with the institution.
Corange chairman, Curt Engelhorn, is a long time Bermuda resident at Five Star Island, and took a personal interest in helping Bermuda youth through educational opportunities on a number of fronts.
Membership in the NCRD includes a number of universities and community colleges. The Bermuda College is a recent member.
Vice president for Institutional Advancement and Resources, Dr. Fred W. Ming, said the nomination process is highly competitive.
He said, "The Benefactor Awards are aimed at those philanthropists and `investors' in higher education who demonstrate a history of involvement on many different levels; for example, serving on committees, advisory boards and even the board of governors.
"Just as the Corange partnership has focused on supporting natural sciences, we are very hopeful that others -- companies as well as individuals -- will step forward to help advance the stature of other departments and faculties of the Bermuda College.''
