Conyers named among top offshore law firms
Conyers Dill & Pearman has been named one of the world's best offshore law firms by legal rating agency Chambers & Partners.
In the annual Chambers Global Guide, which was released last week, Conyers was also once again named as the best corporate law firm in Bermuda.
In its review of all offshore firms worldwide, Chambers named Conyers as a 'band 1' firm - the highest listing attainable. The guide highlighted Conyers' international presence and its "overall network in a position of real authority in the global market".
Chambers stated: "It is clear that the firm's strengths extend well beyond" Bermuda.
In Bermuda, Conyers is commended for maintaining its market-leading position despite the challenging economic climate. According to the review: "peers recognise Conyers' dominance in all sectors on the island - Conyers is way out in front".
Conyers' dispute resolution practice received top rankings from Chambers due to its "strong tradition of high-quality litigation work" and "spectacularly good reputation". Industry peers interviewed by Chambers commented that Conyers is "involved in all of the big cases", and Chambers flagged up a number of Madoff-related fund disputes Conyers lawyers acted in recently.
Chambers also drew attention to Conyers' private client expertise in trust work and its "trust-focused approach to private wealth management".
Eleven lawyers from Conyers' Bermuda office were singled out as leaders in the field - more than any other Bermuda firm. These include Ben Adamson, Alec Anderson, David Cooke, Charlie Collis, Graham Collis, John Collis, David Doyle, Jeffrey Elkinson, Chris Garrod, Narinder Hargun and Paul Smith.
In January, Conyers was ranked as the sole leading private client firm in Bermuda by PLC Which Lawyer, and is also a top-ranked recommended financial and corporate firm in Bermuda by the International Financial Law Review, which highlights to the firm's 'dominant position within the island's corporate services field'. In June 2009, Conyers won The Lawyer's prestigious Offshore Law Firm of the Year Award over firms from other offshore jurisdictions including the Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands and Channel Islands.
