Sunken boats to be removed from Coot Pond, St George’s
Government is set to remove seven abandoned boats from Coot Pond in St George’s after no one stepped forward to claim them.
The Ministry of Transport published a notice in the Official Gazette on April 26 urging the owners of the seven boats “seemingly sunk, stranded or abandoned” to appear before the Director of Marine and Ports Services on Monday.
The notice said: “Given that said vessels has been found likely to become a marine obstruction, danger to navigation and danger to the environment, immediate resolution as to the vessel’s future including removal to sea for sinking, or disposal by burning or some other means needs to be decided.”
All seven boats were described as fibreglass-hulled and measuring between 13 and 25 feet.
A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Transport confirmed this week that no one had appeared before the director about the boats.
The spokeswoman said: “All seven vessels will be removed.
“Additionally, after the boats have been removed from Coot Pond, the Ministry will turn its attention to sunken vessels in Ely’s Harbour, Sandys.”
